Sandra Bullock Goes After Janine's Baby
[ celebrity ] [ hypocrisy ] [ legal ] [ lawyers ] [ performer ] [ opinion ]

We're living in crazy times when a woman whose only crime is tax evasion, can actually lose her child simply because her ex-husband, the child's father, is married to a powerful Hollywood actress, and because the mother is Janine, a porn star.

Sandra Bullock lured Jesse James away from his 7-month pregnant wife, Janine, but because Janine is in the adult industry, no one seemed to be disgusted by the "other woman" who swooped in to break apart a family with a child on the way. Nope, that seemed totally cool in the media's eyes.

Now, without any evidence whatsoever, Janine is being accused of doing drugs and exposing her child to porn, etc. Janine has made it clear that she's been drug-free for ten years and counting. Her daughter Sunny, whom Janine raised completely by herself for the first three years, is five years old. In fact, surprisingly little is mentioned about Jesse James' penchant for riding around with Hell's Angels motorcycle gangs as well as his death-defying TV stunts for media attention.

Of course, Sandra Bullock, who is forty-five years old and probably can't conceive kids of her own, doesn't stand anything to gain from getting custody of her husband's and Janine's child, right?

Dangerous Precedent: Max Hardcore Sentenced for Obscenity
[ censorship ] [ director ] [ politics ] [ lawyers ]

Paul Little, more conspicuously known as Max Hardcore, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison on federal charges for "distributing obscene videos through the mail and the Internet."

Little was also fined $7,500, the minimum fine allowable by law, while Max World Entertainment was fined $75,000, plus an additional $5,000 in "special assessments". The famous adult director/producer was charged with a total of 10 counts, while his company received an additional 10 counts. US District Judge Susan G. Bucklew has placed Max Hardcore's company on five years probation and has ordered Little to serve a three years probation after his release from prison.

Oh, if you happen to try going to Max Hardcore's web site Maxhardcore.com, you are greeted with a big red "Forfeited" stamp and the following message from our government:
This website has been forfeited to the Unites States Government pursuant to the conviction of Paul F. Little, a.k.a “Max Hardcore” and Max World Entertainment for violations of 18 United States Code § 1461, 1462 and 1465

And You Think YOU Have it Bad
[ oops ] [ health ] [ lawyers ]

Philip Seaton was undergoing a simple circumcision procedure when the surgeon decided to - without the patient's or family's consent - lop off his penis.

Seaton, 61 of Shelby County, Kentucky, woke up to the horror of an involuntary "penisectomy". As you can imagine, the anguished man and his wife are suing the surgeon - Dr. John Patterson, the anesthesiologist - Dr. Oliver James, and the clinic where the procedure took place - Commonwealth Urology, PSC.

Dr. Patterson's lame defense is that he found cancer in Seaton's penis during the circumcision procedure. Instead of first obtaining consent from the patient, or allowing his patient to seek a second opinion, Patterson got all Lorena Bobbitt on his patient's manhood. Dr. Patterson was not available for statement, but this is how I imagine the conversation:
Q: So Dr. Patterson, do you have a God Complex or is it standard protocol to cut off the patient's penis without any prior consent?

A: I have an M.D., I am board certified in urology, I successfully operated on the former Kentucky Governor Wilkinson*, and I am never, ever sick at sea. So I ask you; when someone goes into that chapel and they fall on their knees and they pray to God that their wife doesn't miscarry or that their daughter doesn't bleed to death or that their mother doesn't suffer acute neural trauma from postoperative shock, who do you think they're praying to? Now, go ahead and read your Bible, Mr. & Mrs. Seaton, and you go to your church, and, with any luck, you might win the annual raffle, but if you're looking for God, he was in the Commonwealth Urology operating room the day of your procedure, and he doesn't like to be second guessed. You ask me if I have a God complex. Let me tell you something: I am God.**

Victoria's Secret Sued Over Thong Eye Injury
[ lawyers ] [ old fucks ]

According to the Smoking Gun, a 52 year old woman is suing Victoria's Secret over a low rise v-string thong she bought from the Sexy Little Things line. Macrida Patterson is claiming that a decorative metallic piece affixed to her thong became airborne and struck her in the eye as she was attempting to put on the g-string. Did I mention she's 52? Oh yeah, I did.

Patterson's attorney, Jason Buccat, is claiming that the damage to her cornea has caused her to miss a few days of work as a traffic cop with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. Buccat is also claiming that Patterson's damaged cornea will be "affecting her the rest of her life." Before the lawsuit was filed, officials for Victoria's Secret requested to examine the decorative piece and thong in question, but were denied by Patterson's counsel. Talk about cock-blocked!

Penthouse Sued Over Route 66 Trademark?
[ lawyers ] [ penthouse ]

Lawsuits have hit a new low with Roxbury Entertainment suing Penthouse Media over trademark infringement of some crappy 1960's TV show no one cares about that happens to be named after a public highway -- Route 66!

Route 66, a porno of the same title that based on the box cover description, is just about driving down a road and fucking, appears to have nothing to do with the mainstream TV Show that maybe your parents watched, but nevertheless, this is the real deal (PDF) on the Central District of California court dockets. In fact, even Roxbury admits as much themselves in the claim:

Death by Electrosex
[ lawyers ] [ bizarre ] [ belgium ]

In Antwerp, Belgium, the wife of a businessman is suing a pair of prostitutes because her husband died from heart failure during electric sex.

Apparently the 38 year-old businessman asked for the electric shock treatment during a session with the two hookers, despite the fact he was fully aware of his own weak heart. The three also drank, took drugs and had more conventional sex. But if you ask me, that's the way to go.

Will the Real Violet Blue Please Stand Up?
[ lawyers ] [ performer ]

Retired adult performer, Violet Blue, is being sued by a sex-positive writer, also named "Violet Blue." Author Violet Blue has written at least nine sexual how-to books and she's the editor of several erotic short stories. She is well known in the mainstream press. Mark Kernes at AVN writes:
Author Blue filed a lawsuit against actress Blue on Oct. 22 of this year, charging trademark infringement, trademark dilution, violation of right of publicity and unfair competition, claiming that actress Blue "created a likelihood of confusion as to sponsorship, connection, or authorization with Plaintiff Blue's valuable mark" by using her name and even adopting elements of author Blue's appearance, which she claims she's been using since 1999.

There's only one problem: Author Blue provides no proof in her lawsuit as to even the approximate date that she claims she became widely known as "Violet Blue," and the earliest date of publication listed in her Wikipedia entry is 2001, when she edited "Sweet Life: Erotic Fantasies for Couples" for Cleis Press. Moreover, she only received the trademark on her name in March of this year.
The AVN article goes on to describe several elements of the lawsuit.

Katsumi Is Dead, Long Live Katsuni
[ performer ] [ lawyers ]

What a sad day it is when I have to change a performer's name in the database because of some very frivolous lawsuit that occurred in France. Before you all start sending me correction notes, it's not a typo Katsumi is now Katsuni.

Katsuni (sigh) writes about the harrowing experience of defending herself in her myspace diary.

In November I found in my mail-box, a letter written by a lawyer who was defending the interests of a young woman called Miss Katsumi and who was ordering me to stop to use my stagename « Katsumi » IMMEDIATELY.
