 Yes, it's that time of year again (well, almost). Every January, we get to see the biggest names in porn, as well as successful newcomers, mingling with fans, mainstream entertainers and each other. The AVN Awards Show has been described by Entertainment Weekly as 'the Oscars of adult', and rightfully so. The who's who of adult walk the red carpet, adorned with some of the sultriest and glitziest evening wear, ready to strike that sexy pose for swarms of press.
The 2008 AVN Awards Show is being hosted by Tera Patrick. Unbelievably, this will be Patrick's first time hosting the AVN Awards. This year's line-up is sure to please with the most award nominations going to a film, whose full, uncut version is so dirty, most vendors won't sell it. That's right, we're talking about Sex Z Picture's Upload. You can view the 58 page list for the 25th Annual AVN Awards Nominations here (pdf). The list is long as nearly 100 awards are given each year, but a lot of my favorites are up for best actor and actress in a video. If you don't feel like reading the whole document, the most interesting category is "Most Outrageous Sex Scene" on page 57 of the pdf.
This January, the "Crossover Star of the Year" award is being renamed the "Jenna Jameson Crossover Star of the Year" award, in honor of its 2006 and 2007 recipient, Jenna Jameson. And in 2009, AVN will be getting rid of the "in a film" categories as digital video has come a long way.
