There is a dance craze sweeping the Ivory Coast. In fact, it's so popular, African women are turning to butt-boosting "treatments" in order to maximize their BOBARABAs for this dance.
DJ Mix and DJ Elo's hit song Bobaraba, which means "big bottom" in the local Djoula language, has caused huge cultural changes when it comes to people's opinions of big butts. DJ Mix says of the inspiration for his song and dance:
We made it as a tribute to women, because African women are defined by the shape of their bottoms. Move your bottom, jump, you see, it's alive.

Of course, Western Africans are not the only people experiencing the big butt craze. Brazil has seen its share of butt-mania as has the United States. Brazilian Butt Lift Injections are quite popular and continue to grow in use. And in the US, butt implants were estimated at 639 in 2006, up from 542 in 2005, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
I'd like to thank a reader named George for directing me to the BBC News article on the Bobaraba dance.
