"What, porn stars can act?"
Teen porn sensation, Sasha Grey, has been making headlines with her love of classic video games, her various mainstream appearances and of course, her impressive body of adult films. But now she's making national news for nabbing a starring role in the Canadian independent slasher film, Smash Cut.
Director Lee Demarbre, who is known for directing such films as The Dead Sleep Easy (2007), Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace (2004) and Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001), insists there will be no nudity or sex in his indie horror film. Here's what Demarbre told the associated press: The only penetration is by knives and axes. Yes, that's right, Sasha Grey is keeping her clothes on for once as she plays a TV news personality who goes undercover as an actress in a slasher film in order to find the killer of her older sister, who was a stripper. So it's a slasher film about a slasher film. Neato.
Transitioning from porn to even low-budget mainstream film is a big leap for any porn star. In fact, Jenna Jameson's own B-movie break-through involved her being typecast as a stripper in Jay Lee's Zombie Strippers. Grey will not only be breaking away from her porn persona, but she will have a bevy of B-movie legend co-stars including David Hess ("Last House on the Left"), Michael Berryman ("The Hills Have Eyes"), Ray Sager ("The Wizard of Gore") and director-turned-actor Herschell Gordon Lewis ("Blood Feast," "2000 Maniacs").
According to producer, Rob Menzies, Smash Cut is expected to show at various film festivals ahead of it's 2009 theatrical release. And personally, we couldn't be happier for Ms. Grey.
