 Lately in the adult world, there seems to be this fad of having a girl insert either a penis, finger or toy into her anus, and upon taking it out, the camera does this ultra-closeup of what is essentially her colon as either she or her partner spread her cheeks nice and wide. This shot is referred to as a "gape."
This is something that has perplexed me for a while now. Can anyone explain to me the appeal of looking into the pink fleshy colon of a woman? I understand the appeal of anal sex -- it's taboo and puts the gal at the man's mercy. Some women even get off on anal sex more than vaginal sex (and the same can be said for the fellas). I can understand closeups of asses too. Asses are hot commodities right now, much like legs were in our parent's generation. But I just don't get the whole looking deep inside her brown eye thing. It seems so internal organ-ish to me. And the colon is one of the least appealing internal organs if we consider its function.
There's the gaping vagina shot, which I get. The vagina is a very sexual organ. It's not used to defecate. It's where the woman gets all wet. And it looks like a flower and is all cute and stuff compared to the sphincter.
Vagina's don't fart (although yes, they can queef, but that shouldn't stink) and they don't require enemas before sex. Speaking of which, have you ever watched an anal scene where the guy takes his penis out and it's covered in brown you-know-what? I've seen that a few times and talk about a libido crusher!
But I digress. Gaping anal closeups continue to be the trend in gonzo films. Is this something that the fans really love and is here to stay or is it just the trendy, taboo thing to do and will eventually pass? Only time will tell, but I'd love to hear your opinions.

| Maybe there's a sense of "I did this" after anal sex to inspect the swollen, wide open anus? Like the sense of satisfaction one gets after completing that deck staining project, but I just can't see it being sexual. If anyone is turned on by the gaping anus, please explain. |

| What I find ironic about the whole gape issue is that one of the major appeals of anal sex is how tight it is, while an anal gape says the exact opposite. It's saying look how wide her asshole is now, it's no longer tight, you can practically fit your hand in there. I dunno, a gaping anus seems diametrically opposed to pleasurable anal sex. |

then again, if you're going to be anatomically correct, all the rectum really consists of is tissue, which also swells, much like a bosom or a penis, for that matter. so, if we're going to fetishize the swelling, it seems consistent with logic that the rectum must follow shortly after breasts and cocks. vaginas in this sense would be the odd one out, I suppose...
still, while many practices in porn have been inspirational in my own sex life, I must concede that the "gape" would file under a little too intimate for my taste - and probably for most of my friends, who are all open to all kinds of tasteful smut, believe me!
maybe adultfilmdatabase could use its interviewing clout to ask a particular gape-oriented director what his motivation seems to be?
