Australian Women Horny Despite Porn Bans 12:30 PM 07/08/08
[ australia ] [ hypocrisy ]

Australia has numerous bans on adult film, including limits on how many adult films an adult can have in the "privacy" of one's own home. Through government sponsored and enforced filtering, there are now bans on Internet porn. And in what critics consider one of the most racist gestures of this century, the Australian government is banning access to porn among Indigenous communities and peoples in the Northern Territory, but only those individuals of color, not Caucasians. Australia has a long and dubious (at best) history of waging war on porn, so a new book by Australian film development exec, Joan Sauers (pictured), is offering insight into whether Australia's policy matches social reality.

Sex Lives of Australian Women, based on an anonymous online sex survey of approximately 2000 Australian women aged 19 to 70, exposes everything from harrowing stories of sexual attack to porn viewing habits - and given the government's political attacks on porn - the results are quite surprising. Sauers breaks common stereotypes on what Australian women are up to in the sack with statistics:
One in four women view pornography regularly [!]
The average woman has thirteen different sex partners in her life
Sixty-one percent masturbate at least once a month
One in five have starred in their own sex tape
Multiple partners are a growing fad
Many complain of boring sex lives and one in three rarely, if ever, experience orgasm
Almost half (49 percent) say they want sex most of the time when it is offered
The article on the Daily Telegraph goes on to specify how women want more of an emotional connection from sex, more orgasms, and men who are more 'into' them. Part of the problem, writes author Sauers, is that women don't speak up for themselves:
Women needed to understand their voice is your most important sexual organ. He isn't going to know how if you don't tell him.
Yes, but remember ladies, don't tell him while in the sack -- but before or afterward. It can be a libido killer to have a bossy partner unless that's part of your roleplay.

The book is available for purchase through Random House Australia.

I read an article about a city or territory (can't recall) in Australia only allowing households to have 4 adult films. It might tie into 'selling' laws in that if you have a lot of porn you could be considered a reseller or something. I tried finding the link but this was months ago and I just couldn't find it on google.

As an aside, I was shocked to find out Australia is banning Fallout 3 (a game I am really looking forward to playing). Currently the rating system only allows for MA15+ games, so all games must be found suitable for 15 year olds! There is no 18+ (or adult) mature rating as in the USA: http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/07/14/wake-fallout-3-ban-australian-pol-tries-justify-his-position

Another article specifically on the porn ban being racist: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/25/2284869.htm

Also in regards to the "intervention" with the Indigenous population, I have heard nothing in regards to the "white fellas" being exempt from the no porn policy for indigenous commuities. I live in the Northern Territory, and have seen all this inaction first hand.

I live in australia, and have never heard about the limit on how many adult films one can own. Yes there is a law in pretty much all states stating that x rated porn is illegal to sell, but many of our laws are conflicting. It may be ilegal to sell x rated porn in most states, but is it illegal to own? Anyone from across the country can order over the internet from companies hat are located in states that it is legal without trouble. Also there never seems to be any checks done. Also our government is the body that classifies all movies. One problem we have as owners of adult retail outets is that we are governed by these classifications, yet wholesalers are not, meaning everytime we place orders we have to physically check each title before placng a order to make sure we are complying with the law and not lose our licence. Considering that in Canberra, Australia's equivalent to America's Washington, you are allowed to buy and own X rated material and also grow 2 marijuana plans for "personal" use only, they really want to make sure that pretty much the rest of the country have almost no liberties at all.
